In a significant development, the Kayseri 2nd Assize Court has reaffirmed the conviction of Mr. Yüksel Yalçınkaya, defying a previous ruling by the ECHR. This decision comes despite the Grand Chamber’s judgment, which found that Türkiye had violated Articles 6, 7, and 11 of the European Convention.
The Arrested Lawyers Initiative led a coalition of international human rights organisations and legal experts in sending a letter to the TCC urging it to comply with ECHR judgments, in particular the recent Yalcinkaya judgment.
