On the occasion of Lawyers Day in Turkey, we urge the Turkish Government to take steps to ensure that all jailed lawyers are immediately released and the charges against them dropped, to take all necessary measures to guarantee the physical and psychological integrity of lawyers in Turkey, as well as their ability to perform their professional duties without fear of reprisal, hindrance, intimidation, or harassment.

We, The Arrested Lawyers Initiative, sincerely congratulate your European Lawyers Day, today, 25th October is also the first anniversary of our initiative which was founded to speak up and struggle for the arrested lawyers.
Lawyers are the sine qua non of rule of law and fair, independent, impartial judiciary and also the most important and effective safeguard against torture and ill-treatment.
As of 5th September 2017, 524 lawyers have been arrested and 1323 lawyers are under prosecution since 2016 July
